Geotechnical Research

Aerial View of Pipe Facility

Pipes, culverts, dowel bars, wingwalls, and soil structures are several foci of geotechnical research, a central aspect of the Ohio Research Institute for Transportation and the Environment and an active area of Civil Engineerig faculty research.

The Civil Engineering department has a number of grants and research projects that address solutions to geotechnical problems in the field and in the laboratory. Students aid faculty in instrumenting and monitoring pavement performance, investigating bridges, and monitoring the performance of pipes at the Civil Engineering department's load frame facility and deep pipe field facility.
