Fathima Badurdeen is currently a PhD student in Integrated Engineering at Ohio University. She teaches Engineering Economy for engineering students at Ohio University. While at Ohio University she has been working as a Research Assistant at the ORITE Human Factors and Ergonomics Laboratory during fall 2000, summer 2001 and on a part time basis since then. As a Research Assistant she has been engaged in research on road weather information systems, snow and ice removal processes and retroreflective traffic sign materials. At the Human Factors and Ergonomics Laboratory she has conducted independent research, evaluated results and written reports on the findings. She was the co-author of a paper that was presented at the 2002 Transportation Research Board conference. Her coursework at Ohio University includes Design of Experiments, Statistics, Human Machine Systems, Systems Engineering, and Industrial Computer Simulation.

She has an MS in Industrial Engineering from Ohio University (2002), an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, Sri Lanka (2000) and a BS in Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (1995). She also has a diploma in Management Accounting and has undergone training on Ergonomics at the Lulea University of Technology in Sweden.

Fathima received many awards as an undergraduate student for academic excellence such as the Ceylon Tobacco Company Studentship Award for performance in her first year and the Colombo Dockyard Studentship Award for performance in Production Engineering in her third year. Upon graduation, she was offered an academic position as a Probationary Lecturer at the Department of Production Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. While serving in this position she taught undergraduate courses in various subjects, including Ergonomics, Industrial Engineering, Workshop Technology, Production Technology and Production Cost Analysis. She was also involved in many research projects during this time and coordinated many student development programs. She served as the Vice President of the Sri Lanka Ergonomics Association for two years.
