Associate Professor of Civil Engineering
Ph.D., Vanderbilt University

Office: 122 Stocker
Phone: (740) 593 - 1472

Dr. Herman taught and conducted research while earning his doctorate at Vanderbilt University. He joined the Ohio University Faculty in 1994. He has also spent over 15 years working in industry in the areas of plant engineering and manufacturing engineering.

Dr. Herman's principal area of interest is in the environmental analysis of transportation systems. He has conducted research for the Federal Highway Administration as well as the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) and states of Ohio, Tennessee, Washington, and Pennsylvania. Dr. Herman studies the effects of tire/pavement interaction to find new approaches to reduce traffic noise at its source. He also studies the design and effectiveness of noise abatement methods, such as walls and berms, to improve their performance.
