Civil Engineering

Goals and Objectives

Our mission is to prepare graduates to successfully apply the principles of Civil Engineering.


The program educational objectives of the Department of Civil Engineering are to:

1. Prepare graduates to enter and progress in the practice and principles of Civil Engineering.
2. Provide students with a broad education in Civil Engineering.
3. Expose students to technologies and tools necessary for the Civil Engineering profession.
4. Ensure faculty are qualified to teach and advise Civil Engineering students.

In order to meet these objectives, the Department of Civil Engineering has established program educational outcomes. These outcomes include:

     1. Provide students with background and skills in:

          a. mathematics
          b. science
          c. engineering
          d. experimental procedures/processes
          e. design
 

     2. Provide students with a learning environment that fosters:

          a. functioning on multidisciplinary teams
          b. understanding professional and ethical responsibilities
          c. effective oral and written communication
          d. recognition of current and future societal concerns
          e. the need for life-long learning

          f.  understanding of engineering and its impacts on society
 

     3. Expose students to state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice facilities/equipment
